Bryson DeChambeau is letting the PGA Tour decide his Ryder Cup fate with Team USA captain Keegan Bradley calling his suspension a distraction they can’t afford against Team Europe’s reiging champions

Bryson DeChambeau has thrown things back to the PGA Tour to decide whether he gets to participate with Team USA before the Ryder Cup, and has been outspoken with his frustration over the stand-off.

The 2020 U.S. Open champion is still suspended after joining LIV Golf in 2022, making him ineligible for the Procore Championship in Napa, California, on Sept 11-14. That’s the event U.S. captain Keegan Bradley hoped to use as a final tune-up ahead of Bethpage Black (Sept. 26-28), where DeChambeau is all but locked to represent America.

“That’s up to the Tour and their decision to make”, said DeChambeau. “It’s on them if they don’t let us become together as a team and play.”

DeChambeau’s words came during LIV Golf’s Indianapolis event, which is set for August 15-17, and after missing a Ryder Cup team dinner. The Crushers GC captain sits T-12 through one round of play, with 11-over players steadily inching their way toward Torque GC’s Sebastian Monoz, who leads the field at 12 under.

Bradley wishes that the politics preventing DeChambeau’s participation would take a back seat to the upcoming competition that has seen Team Europe dominate in 10 of the last 13 biennial competitions.

Speaking at the BMW Championship, Bradley made no secret of his disappointment at the situation.

In his view, the Ryder Cup should take precedence over any conflicts between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

“Well, he’s suspended. And that’s out of my control”, Bradley said. “I thought that the Ryder Cup sort of transcends all of this. And really, the last thing on my mind is the PGA Tour-LIV stuff.”

While Bradley serves as captain, Team USA will be vice-captained by Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, and Gary Woodland.

Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, and Xander Schauffele all mathematically qualified for the team after the BMW Championship cutoff on Aug. 17.

DeChambeau is currently fifth in Ryder Cup points and finished just below Russell Henley. The LIV star is expected to qualify outright or be one of Bradley’s six captain’s picks.

Bradley has already pointed to his power, energy, and presence in the team room as reasons he’s essential.

Rickie Fowler and Patrick Cantlay, who previously represented Team USA during the event, both endorsed DeChambeau’s participation. Fowler is a five-time Ryder Cup veteran.

“Yeah, I would pick him too,” said Fowler. “I think it would be hard to find really any or many Americans that would argue that point.”

The LIV season ends in Indianapolis on Sunday, with Michigan hosting the final event a week later. DeChambeau remains the world’s No. 17 player after earning significant points for his 2024 U.S. Open victory, finishing as runner-up at this year’s PGA Championship, and securing fifth place at The Masters, which saw Rory McIlroy complete a career Grand Slam.
